Welcome to the new 2019/2020 Hockey season where we see a whole load of changes in our coaching line up as we look to strengthen our performances on the pitch.
The Ladies 1XI will be coached by Suzy Clapp (Horsham) and the Ladies 2XI by Johnny Dale (Horsham) with Victoria Rodwell coming in from Whitgift school to coach our Ladies 4XI/5XI and Hotstars.
The Men’s 1XI will be coached Andy Blood (East Grinstead) and the Men’s 2XI by Will Kerr-Dineen (Head of Hockey at Christ Hospital) with the Men’s 3XI/4XI/5XI starting off being coached by Sean Percy (Horsham) and our Hotshots and Hotsticks coached again by Deano (Horsham).
We also completed our first Evohockey.com camp in August which saw attendees from East London and Hertfordshire as well as from Horsham and the surrounding areas. We are running another 2-day camp during half term on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th October so please attend to get some great coaching from the International players.
We will retain our Adidas kit to be supplied by Game, Set and Match in Chichester or via the website. This season we have a new T19 kit available which is a standard Adidas design unlike our previous bespoke T16 kit which is also available until stocks run out. The new T19 kit has lowered the price per unit and should ensure better stock availability. New tracksuits and training tops have been added along with a cheaper T- shirt for our younger colts so head over and start shopping. GSAM will be at Christ Hospital on Sunday 8th September for our Colts session to take orders and show samples.
If you’re a looking to join a gym, Bluecoat Sports Health & Fitness Club is offering any member of Horsham Hockey Club 25% discount off a full membership package + no joining fee. I understand you can also gain this discount if you are an existing member too.
We will continue with an updated TEAMO software this year and we have been told this will offer enhancements and a more stable platform. The Horsham Hockey Club website information is lagging a bit, but updates will appear in due course.
The new season begins on Saturday 7th September with Club day games for most teams and a food back at the club provided by La Creperie, the clubs new food providers who now offer an all-day service, so do come down and say hello.
Our Ladies section run by Ladies Club Captain, Charlotte White or CJ as she is known is looking forward to a bumper year with strong interest from new players joining the club and our Ladies 1st XI continuing to play high level hockey.
Our Men’s section run by Men’s Club Captain Mark Beard will be looking to improve our fortunes on the pitch after a tough season last year, with a bit of rebuilding going on with the M1 but a stronger permanent coaching line up and some player recruitment ongoing as we look to build a longer term pipeline for success.
Our Colts section coached by Brian Humphries along with several volunteers making up the Colts coordinator role is ready to run another fantastic season for our colts’ teams.
Fundraising continues add extra money to the club and our Men’s 1XI are again sponsored by Mancini Legal Solicitors in Horsham in case you need any advice or help moving to a new house. Call them and mention Horsham Hockey if you need help.
We also provide 8 marshals to support the local Barns Green Marathon on Sunday 29th September 2019 and the club get a donation for helping so please do volunteer via your club captain to assist and cheer on the runners, including hockey players this year.
The Big Gig at the Sports Club is another event that we help with volunteers and our bar is always the best run, so please do volunteer again this year on Saturday 20th June 2020.
Our Hockey social events will repeat last year’s pattern with a few improvements where possible. The club fireworks night is on Saturday 26th October 2019, and our Christmas Disco is on Saturday 7th December 2019 at Club. Next year our team quiz night at club is on Saturday 18th Jan 2020, whilst our end of season dinner is still being planned as we look to improve on last year’s event. Date and venue to be confirmed. It’s still early days but our provisional date for the next AGM is Friday 3rd April 2020.
As Chairman, I have been pushing forwards discussion with Christ Hospital about future facilities and more recently Horsham Golf and fitness who have development plans in the pipeline. Any solution is complex and will take time, but the committee continues to search for improved facilities and a permanent improved home for the club if possible.
I hope you all enjoy the coming season.
Chairman Horsham Hockey Club
